Major Sponsors

Welcome to the Project Rebuild Plaquemines website! This non-profit organization was started in September of 2005, shortly after Hurricane Katrina for the purpose of aiding in the community recovery effort. Our board consists of representatives from our major sponsors and members of the Plaquemines Parish community.

Our work began with a welcome home free fair that was open to all parish residents in celebration of our people coming home. We also co-sponsored health fairs in the largest FEMA community parks along with United Way, Hands of Hope and many local, state and federal agencies. We funded a study by the L.S.U. Center for Energy Studies with the support of PABI to demonstrate the tremendous impact of our energy assets to the State of Louisiana and the nation (read the study under the Projects link). We co-sponsored and organized the Grand Opening of the Riverbend Senior Center in Belle Chasse, after it was used as an animal shelter post-Katrina and then totally renovated through the generosity of the city of Calabasas, California.

We built our first playground in Diamond in cooperation with KaBOOM!, Save the Children and Plaquemines Parish Government. Volunteers for this effort included the Red Cross, AmeriCorps, the Belle Chasse Naval Air Station, ConocoPhillips, South Plaquemines High School students, the Plaquemines Parish Orange Queen 2007 (Ashley Johnson), Leon Duplessis and Sons and many others.

Our largest undertaking is the Plaquemines Parks Project which consists of our partnering with Plaquemines Parish Government to rebuild and improve five additional parks at parish sites to restore and improve recreation access in the parish. Each park is designed to have something for everyone in the family to encourage everyone to get outside and take a break from the stress of a lengthy recovery process (see the Projects link for more information).

To support the recovery of Plaquemines Parish - its government and its residents, from the devastation of the storms of 2005 through the development of and/or support to community recreation sites, community centers, libraries or any such facility that serves and is accessible to the public. We will also support other non-profits and community organizations that share our interests and are working to that end.
